The lgbt federation north east was established in 2005 and is the lead organisation within the ne vcs equalities coalition’s sexuality strand. we draw our members from across the whole region and across the different groups within the lgbt community. our approach and our membership cross age, cultural and religious backgrounds and include disabled and non-disabled people. in addition, the lbi coalition was developed in order to provide a distinct and separate voice for lesbians and bisexual women in the north east. we have a small policy group that is currently considering a formal membership approach that will suit the various needs of the diverse community we seek to support. we need to provide for individual, group and business involvement. we also have special interest groups such as the parenting group; and a developing business group for lgbt entrepreneurs. the federation is run by and for its members, but the day-to-day business is looked after by a management group comprising formal directors of the company, who are appointed at the annual general meeting in september. our regular general meetings, which are held in different locations across the region, are open to all lgbt people to attend and usually take place in the evening.
